Some classic pictures of the Fort Augustus Railway

Here are some classic pictures of the Invergarry and Fort Augustus railway. The line was opened in 1903.  It was a real feat of engineering and terminated at a pier on Loch Ness to link up with the steamers.

Imagine alighting from the train at Fort Augustus  pier station to board  a steamer or other boat that would take you up Loch Ness to Inverness. If only the line was still open today, what a tourist boon it would be.
